Company History . . .

History of Norwalk TankNorwalk Tank Company has been in business since 1961.  Norwalk sells retail and wholesale septic tanks, manholes, grease traps, reinforced concrete pipe, flared end sections, Norweco Aeration Systems, chlorinators, and specialty vaults.

The company began on March 4, 1961 with a trip to Norwalk, Ohio (after which the company was named) to purchase a 1000 gallon tank form and a delivery boom truck.  Back in Joliet, IL we rented a small area with a concrete pour pad and poured our first tank using Redi-Mix Concrete.

Through old fashioned American ingenuity, we solved several of our start up problems:

  • We built a ramp for the boom truck so the boom would reach high enough to strip the tank form.
  • An enclosure was built with an integrated rail system for removal of product
  • To mix and direct pour our own concrete, we built a triangular platform and a 2 ½ yard mixer was placed atop the platform.
  • An old coal conveyor belt was added to bring sand, gravel, and cement to the mixer.

In 1970, we added a full range of septic tanks with State approved permits from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
In 1978, “Home Sewage Treatment Plants” were added to our product line.
In 1997,  We began to produce and sell, RCP Flared End Sections.

Today, our concrete is produced by a state of the art, computerized Batch Plant to ensure the highest quality product, batch after batch.
